Ravi Teja was as born on 26 January 1968 in Jaggampeta, East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh. Ravi Teja's real name is Bhupatiraju Ravishankar Raju. He is the eldest of three sons to Bhupatiraju Rajgopal Raju, a pharmacist, and Rajyalaxmi Bhupatiraju, a home maker. Both his brothers are now actors as well. Ravi spent his childhood in Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai and Bhopal. He moved to Vijayawada along with his family. He was a naughty child who used to set fire to couches to enact action scenes. He tried to run away from home to become an actor in Bollywood when he was eleven years old. He also called as(Mass Star, Mass Raja, Sex Demon, Crazy star, Energising star,Mass Maharaja). Height 6' 0"

Ravi Teja studied at N.S.M Public School and joined Siddhartha Degree College to pursue his Bachelors in Arts. Half way through his undergraduate studies, he left for Chennai on 2 October 1988, to begin a career in films.

He is married to Kalyani since 2002. Their daughter Mokshadha was born in 2003 while they welcomed their sonManit in 2006.

Ravi Teja worked in movies like Aaj Ka Goonda Raj, Premaku Velayara and Criminal. He got a chance to work as an assistant director for Ninne Pelladatha. In 1999, he got a chance to work as the male lead in Nee Kosam. He acted in secondary roles in movies like Annayya and Ammayi Kosam. He became a top hero with hits like Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Venky, Kick, Idiot and Bhadra. Vikramarkudu and Krishna were his biggest hits. Other hit movies like Baladoor and Neninthe took him to the next level in his acting career. Don Seenu, Dubai Seenu and Shambo Shiva Shambo and Mirapakaya were his other hit movies.

Initially, he worked in both television and films as an assistant director. He worked in several Bollywood as well as Tollywood projects including Prathibandh, Aaj Ka Goonda Raj, and Criminal. He managed to do minor roles in Bollywood as well. Ravi Teja joined Krishna Vamsi as an assistant director for Ninne Pelladatha and played a small role in the film. Krishna Vamsi cast him as one of the lead actors in Sindhuram. After that he played second lead in films like Pattukondi Chuddam, Premaku Velayara, and Padutha Thiyaga. His first film as a lead actor was Nee Kosam (1999), directed by Srinu Vaitla.

Ravi Teja has been a great fan of Amitabh Bachchan and Chiranjeevi since childhood.
