Tollywood producers cool to ‘Kolaveri di’

HYDERABAD: It seems Tollywood is not too scared of the 'murderous rage' of 'Kolaveri di' . The Tamil dubbed film `3', featuring the chart-buster 'Kolaveri di' song, is set for release in Andhra Pradesh on March 30 but Tollywood producers are not running for cover.

Generally, if a much-hyped movie or a big budget movie or even a film that has generated a lot of interest is released, producers of other films try to play it safe. They do not release their films on that particular day so as to avoid a clash with a movie that has already caught the fascination of the film-going public.

If producers are in a desperate situation to release their film that very week itself, if a longer wait may result in huge financial losses, they release it a day before or after the big-ticket film. However, nothing of this sort is happening in Tollywood despite the Tamil film `3' being released this Friday. The film is being simultaneously released in Tamil Nadu also .

In Andhra Pradesh, at least two new Telugu releases will clash with '3'. A film titled `Lovely' produced by B A Raju and directed by his wife Jaya will hit theatres on the same day. Another film titled `Balaraju Aadi Bammardhi' starring Aryan Rajesh and Srihari will also vie for attention of the filmgoers. Another Hollywood movie is also in the reckoning.

"We have our calculations when it comes to releasing movies. There is no doubt the song `Kolaveri di' is a huge hit but Dhanush, as a hero, does not have a huge following in Andhra Pradesh. Some Tamil film heroes do pull crowds here but in our estimation, it is safe to release some straight Telugu movies instead of being so scared of 3'. So even though movie '3' is scheduled to be released on March 30, the other movies have stuck to their schedules," Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce president M Vijayendar Reddy said.

Dhanush also is not making tall claims of himself. "If I can do well in films, so anybody else in this country," he said. Strange as it seemed, some people who are vociferous in their demand to restrict the release of dubbed films in the state were themselves seen at the audio release of 3' starring Dhanush and Shruti Haasan in the city recently.

Ironically, producer Natti Kumar who had expressed himself against dubbed films in the past has bought the Telugu distribution rights of 3' and is releasing it in a record 700 theatres. That in itself is being, claimed as a record for any dubbed movie. To counter `3', the makers of Lovely' have come up with publicity posters showing crowd-puller Mahesh Babu with the hero of the film 'Aadi' . So is it a clash between Mahesh Babu and Dhanush? The question will be settled this Friday.
